Mapping Hot Spring Deposits with Aviris at Steamboat Springs, Nevada
1.0 INTRODUCTION Active and fossil hot springs systems occur worldwide, and share many common characteristics that indicate similar genetic histories (White 1955; Waring 1965; Rhinehart 1980; White 1981; Bowen 1989). This research studies the occurrence and characteristics of hot springs at Steamboat Springs, Nevada using Airborne Visible/Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) data. Both highan...
متن کاملRare-Earth Mineral Deposits of the Mountain Pass District, San Bernardino County, California.
Bastnaesite, a rare-earth fluocarbonate, was found in the Mountain Pass district in April 1949. Subsequent geologic mapping has shown that rare-earth mineral deposits occur in a belt about 6 miles long and iy2 miles wide. One of the deposits, the Sulphide Queen carbonate body, is the greatest concentration of rare-earth minerals now known in the world. The Mountain Pass district is in a block o...
متن کاملIn situ production of crenarchaeol in two california hot springs.
Crenarchaeol, a membrane-spanning glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraether (GDGT) containing a cyclohexane moiety in addition to four cyclopentane moieties, was originally hypothesized to be synthesized exclusively by the mesophilic Crenarchaeota. Recent studies reporting the occurrence of crenarchaeol in hot springs and as a membrane constituent of the recently isolated thermophilic crenarchaeote ...
متن کاملEndemic fishes inhabiting some hot springs of Hormozgan province
This study investigated the fish species inhabiting hot springs of Hormozgan province including Geno, Khoorgoo, Sargez Khoorgoo, Siahkosh and Pahash . According to previous studies and the present study, the Aphanius ginaonis was the unique species in Geno hot spring. Fingerlings and mature females of A. ginaonis were remarkably found in the spring in August. While, previous studies reported th...
متن کاملHepatic damage associated with mineral oil deposits.
The case of a 33 year old male is reported. Hepatic inflammation and scarring were associated with deposits of mineral oil in portal triads. This is believed to be the first reported case of hepatic damage resulting from mineral oil accumulation. Possible sources of the oil are considered.
